Head of Legal and Compliance

Emma Drummond

Emma Drummond is the Head of Legal and Compliance for UNSW Global, playing a critical and significant role across all aspects of the organisations operations.  Emma has held this position since 2014.  As a member of the executive team, Emma’s responsibility is to provide strategic input and legal advice for all of UNSW Global operations, ensuring that UNSW Global operates optimally within the strict legal compliance framework for international education. The legal and compliance team has grown in size and importance under Emma’s leadership, reflective of the scale and complexity of the environment.

‘People are the most important piece of the puzzle and getting the best out of everyone, through positive interactions which lead to mutually beneficial outcomes, is what we strive to achieve.’

Emma’s legal background is ideally suited to international education having worked in a variety of different sectors in Europe spanning international banking and finance, intellectual property, media and communications and commercial law.  This combination of broad sector experience, government and commercial roles and the need to operate across geographies and legal jurisdictions has given Emma the ability to add great value and ‘out of the box’ thinking to her role.  Emma is regularly involved in detailed contract negotiations across different jurisdictions, cultures, and time zones, where her people skills combine with a solid technical knowledge to reach positive outcomes.

Whilst not at work, Emma still finds time to travel and explore other cultures as well as indulging in activities which provide an immersion in the great outdoors such as camping, scuba diving, swimming and snorkelling.
